Hello my name is DeJuana and I am the glowing mommy of 3 kids, one being my son CJ who has a dual diagnosis of Down syndrome and autism.

At 23 years of age, I gave birth to CJ. I was married at the time to his father and we had absolutely no clue that life would change so dramatically. You see, we didn’t know that our son had Downs until he arrived on December 1, 2001.

We had a whirlwind of a journey, oftentimes learning and navigating on our own. While we had Regional center, understanding what they could provide was a process in itself.

Although it was a scary time, I jumped into the supermom role and endured my son’s 3 month hospital stay. Once home, we had a schedule full of therapy and doctor’s visits. In the process my marriage ended but life continued.

But this is of course the short version of our road. CJ and I had many peaks and valleys. Some were the typical challenges that special needs parents face while others were unique to our family. As time progresses, the journey doesn’t get any easier, so this site has been birthed to assist special parents in their journey. Whether you are in need of resources, a shoulder to lean on, or someone to laugh with–we are here. The development of this site/organization has been a labor of love–but it’s time to “Connect Special Parents, Raising Special Kids.”

Listen to my story about the day we became a member of the elite group of special needs parents.
